Esophagus Perforation

Esophageal perforation is a surgical emergency requiring immediate medical attention. A perforation occurs due to a tear or opening in the esophageal wall. This can result from a direct injury, complications of certain medical procedures and endoscopies, swallowing foreign objects, exposure to caustic substances, or, in rare cases, from severe vomiting.

When a perforation occurs, the contents of the esophagus can leak into the surrounding tissues in the chest or neck, potentially leading to severe infections and serious complications if not treated promptly.

Common symptoms include sudden and severe chest or neck pain, difficulty or pain when swallowing, shortness of breath, fever, rapid heartbeat, and general fatigue and weakness.

Diagnosis relies on a physical examination and specialized imaging tests such as CT scans and contrast-enhanced esophageal radiography. In some cases, an endoscope may be used to assess the location and extent of the perforation.

Treatment options include endoscopic intervention to close the perforation in appropriate cases, or surgery to repair the tear and clean the affected tissue when necessary. Supportive treatment and antibiotics are also provided to control infections and prevent complications.

Our medical team provides specialized care using the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to ensure rapid intervention and achieve the best possible treatment outcomes while maintaining patient safety and quality of life.
